Stanford QB Justin Lamson Calls Out Himself And Offense For Lack Of Big Plays Against Oregon

The Stanford Cardinal suffered a 42-6 loss against the No. 9 Oregon Ducks on Saturday and not converting on big plays proved costly.

Stanford's 42-6 loss against the No. 9 Oregon Ducks marked the fourth week in a row that the Cardinal walked out of a stadium with yet another loss on their record.

The Cardinal never made it into the end zone the entire game, as two field goals did it for Stanford. Cardinal quarterback Justin Lamson said that the athleticism of the Duck's defense proved costly for Stanford.

"Yeah, they're a super versatile defense," Lamson said. "They showed a lot of different fronts, a lot of different coverages. Their guys are athletic. You've kind of seen it all year, they hold teams to less than 20 points."

However, Lamson knows that Oregon's powerhouse defense is not the only aspect to blame for their loss, Lamson is tough on himself as well for not converting in crucial moments.

"So I think we just - there is a point where we got to end up making big plays," Lamson said. "Contested catches; I've got to break some tackles; one-on-one. Same thing with everybody, and I'm sure any player would tell you that."

Stanford only recorded a total of 222 yards on Saturday compared to Oregon's 506 and the Cardinal only completed 14 total passes. When playing a top-ten team like the Oregon Ducks, the completion of big plays can be a game-changer. So, when the Cardinal lacked consistency, it proved costly.

"Against a good team like that, you kind of got to make those big plays to win the game," Lamson said. "And we just didn't do that."
