Bo Nix and Oregon Spoil Stanford's Upset Aspirations
The Stanford Cardinal were defeated 42-6 after initially being up 6-0 in the first half against the No. 9 Oregon Ducks.
Stanford played some of their best football of the year for one quarter, before the explosive Oregon offense woke up and the Cardinal were down big.
Quarterback Justin Lamson got his first career start, and eventually was the lone quarterback after Ashton Daniels went down with an injury. He and the offense had a less-than-ideal game as he was 11/20 for just a mere 106 passing yards with zero touchdowns. He was forced to constantly be on the run, rushing 22 times for 32 yards.
The Stanford offense couldn’t get much going in this affair and stalled for three and outs countless times.
Bo Nix and the Ducks finally figured some things out after the first quarter as the offense began clicking early in quarter number two. Nix finished the game 27/32 for 290 yards and four touchdowns after his sluggish start. Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin had another massive game with seven catches, 117 yards, and two touchdowns. This is Franklin’s second straight week with two touchdown passes as he is one of the best wide receivers in not only the Pac-12 but the country. Ducks running back Bucky Irving had another great game with 88 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries as he is the key to Oregon’s success.
Stanford now falls to 1-4 on the season as they head into their bye week. The Cardinal will look to focus and prepare for Shedeur Sanders and Colorado when they play on Oct. 13.
