Tony Mowbray his tipped Jewison Bennette to bring ‘a little bit of magic’ to the FA Cup at Shrewsbury this weekend.

The Costa Rican has had limited opportunities at Sunderland, although much of that is down to him missing a month of training while away at the World Cup.

However, he is in line to start the game at New Meadow on Saturday, and Mowbray hopes it’s the start of a good run in the first team.

Asked whether Bennette would feature in the FA Cup at Shrewsbury, Mowbray said: "I think so.

"Jewison has been recovering from the World Cup - he didn't play every minute of every game.

“Bailey [Wright] was the same, he didn't play when he first came back. They have to get back into the training patterns of how we work, they had been away doing something completely different for a month.

"He just has to acclimatise back into it and there's a fair chance he'll be involved in this game.

“Hopefully he can bring that little bit of magic that he's shown in glimpses for us and he can try and force his way into a more regular starting position."

Sunderland are managing an injury crisis right now, with Corry Evans, Alex Pritchard, Danny Batth, Aji Alese, Niall Huggins, Dennis Cirkin and Elliot Embleton all unavailable.
