The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-hander Clayton Kershaw on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to a swollen muscle in his upper left back. An MRI revealed the problem, although Kershaw had already been scratched from Sunday's start in San Diego.

The decision came one day after Kershaw told manager Don Mattingly he no longer felt pain in his upper back, according to ESPN.

There were reports that he threw on Friday without discomfort. Mattingly said he and the team plan to use caution with Kershaw moving forward.
