U.S. defender Cameron Carter-Vickers signs extension with Tottenham
U.S. youth international center back Cameron Carter-Vickers has signed a new deal with Tottenham that will keep him at the Premier League club through 2018.
Carter-Vickers, just 17, played for the U.S. at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup and was also on the U-23 Olympic qualifying team that finished third in CONCACAF's tournament and will play Colombia in a two-game playoff in March for a berth in Brazil 2016. Carter-Vickers, born in England to an American father, features regularly for Tottenham's U-21 side and occasionally acts as team captain. He has played in six games and has scored once this season for Spurs' U-21s.
"[The contract] just shows the hard work I’ve put in so far has paid off and now it needs to continue," Carter-Vickers said in a club press release.
Carter-Vickers started all of the USA's Olympic qualifying and U-20 World Cup matches (10 total), helping the latter team reach the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Serbia on penalty kicks.
