Sean McVay Squashes Any Rumors of LA Getting Rid of Jared Goff

The lucrative contract extension for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz just days ago has catapulted Los Angeles' Jared Goff's name into the news cycle.
Wentz and Goff were in the same draft class, and both have had highly successful NFL careers thus far. So if Wentz has seen his payday arrive, it's safe to assume that Goff could be next.
Some people would disagree. During the past week, some media outlets have floated the idea that the Rams should move on from Goff, noting that his emergence didn't happen until Rams coach Sean McVay came along while using his unimpressive performance in Super Bowl LIII as Exhibit A.
McVay thinks that the idea is asinine—he has found his QB1.
"It’s insane,” McVay said. “I can assure you that is not going to happen. He ain’t going anywhere and he’s just continuing to get better.”
Goff has increasingly improved over the past three years—he threw for 32 TD passes in 2018 after tossing 28 in 2017, and just five in 2016. His completion percentage and QBR have also risen dramatically.
“He’s just getting better and better,” McVay said. “This offseason, he’s continued to take steps, truly becoming an extension of the coaching staff and a huge part of our success as a team the last couple of years is due to his leadership and we’re so thankful to have him."
In 2017 McVay proved that the Rams can be competent with Goff under center. In 2018, he proved they can succeed at a high level.
Whatever it may mean for his contract numbers in the future, there's no reason to believe that LA will move on from Goff.
"It’s insane to think that he’s going anywhere. He’s stuck with me as long as I have a say.”
