New Detroit Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery had an opportunity to interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their vacant offensive coordinator position.

Montgomery was the ninth candidate to meet with the Buccaneers for their open coordinator position.

Byron Leftwich was recently dismissed from Todd Bowles' staff, after the team was eliminated from the postseason.

Recall, the Dallas Cowboys were able to soundly defeat the Buccaneers, 31-14, in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs.

It was subsequently the last time Tom Brady would take the field, as he announced his retirement after a storied career.

Prior to joining Detroit to become the team's new running backs coach, the experienced assistant coach worked with the Indianapolis Colts in the same role.

Prior to speaking with Montgomery, the Buccaneers had interviewed eight other candidates, including Thomas Brown from the Rams, Klint Kubiak from the Broncos and Jaguars quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter.

Former Lions running backs coach Duce Staley decided to accept a position on the coaching staff of Frank Reich, who was recently named the Panthers' new head coach.
