Daniel Jones Offers Update on His Neck

Jones said his goal is to play Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones offered still more insight on the neck injury he suffered Sunday in the team’s loss against the Miami Dolphins, saying that he not only was feeling better but that the injury was different than the one he suffered in 2021 that cost him the final six games of the season and required an off-season procedure.

Jones, appearing on the Up & Adams Show, told Kay Adams, “I’m feeling better. It’s different than what I’ve dealt with in the past, so just trying to heal up as quickly as possible and follow the advice from the trainers and doctors.”

This optimism is nothing new with Jones, who, if it were up to him, wouldn’t miss any practice time or game snaps regardless.

Unfortunately for Jones, his playing status won't be entirely up to him as the trainers and medical staff will determine if his playing puts him at risk for greater injury behind a porous offensive line.

When he spoke to reporters on Monday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll expressed similar optimism about Jones and his potential availability for Sunday’s game against the Bills.

However, at the time, Daboll admitted that the full test results hadn’t come back as of his media conference, his initial opinion resting more on Jones’s feedback than anything, adding that they would see where things stood when the team returned to work on Wednesday to begin their prep for the Bills.

Still, Jones sounded like a man who wasn’t planning on taking the week off.

“I’m going to do everything I can to be out there,” he told Adams. “The biggest thing is just dealing with the contact. Getting hit in a certain way exposes you ... it’s not necessarily what would prevent me from doing anything — throwing or doing what I need to do, but just taking a similar hit could affect it.”

Therein lies the decision for the Giants. Do they trust an offensive line that has already allowed Jones to be sacked 28 times and hit 53 (not to mention the hits he’s taken on his 38 rushing attempts) to afford Jones better protection than it has so far in five games?
