ESPN Analyst Predicts Cowboys' Dak Successor: Deion's Son?

ESPN analyst Ryan Clark is making the bold claim that the Dallas Cowboys' next quarterback after Dak Prescott will be Deion Sanders' son, Shedeur.

Dak Prescott's future with the Dallas Cowboys looking anything but certain. There is a real thought that the 2024 season could be Dak's last as a Cowboy given his contract situation ... especially if there's a certain quarterback in the 2025 draft class who might be available.

Now, there is still plenty of time for both sides to agree to an extension, but if one can't be done and Prescott heads to free agency in 2025, he will likely command a historic fee. So where would that leave Dallas? Trey Lance isn't signed for the 2025 season, and would owner Jerry Jones like to go forward with Cooper Rush? That's doubtful. Of course, Prescott could still get re-signed as well.

But ESPN analyst Ryan Clark has given thought to an idea that could create the story of all stories for the Cowboys if things with Prescott go south in 2024.

With Dallas needing a quarterback should Dak leave, Clark offers up a scenario where Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders becomes the franchise's latest star and follows in his father's footsteps.

“This could be far off, it's a year away, Shedeur Sanders has to be who they believe Shedeur Sanders could be,” Clark said on The Pivot podcast. “If I'm Deion Sanders and I do believe I have the power to manipulate the draft, why wouldn't I want Shedeur Sanders to go to a team I won the Super Bowl with?

"Go to Jerry World, become a Dallas Cowboy, make a boatload of money on the field, even more off the field and forever be a legend in a place that your dad also continue to make himself one. If I'm Deion, I'm looking at Dak Prescott’s situation, I'm thinking about my relationship with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys ownership. This is where my son grew up, what better place to put your son than the place that's possibly going to lose their franchise quarterback?

Sanders is likely a consensus top draft pick when he enters the draft process, and despite all of Dallas' shortcomings in free agency this offseason, they still have enough roster talent not to have a top draft pick at the end of the season. So that's one part of the problem in getting Shedeur to Dallas...unless his father, Deion Sanders, chimes in.

While a lot would have to happen and go right for Sanders to land in Dallas, it certainly is an interesting thought. Especially with Dak's contract situation as delicately poised as it is.

There does seem a path toward Sanders being a Cowboy even if it is the stuff of fantasy, and Deion would have to somehow muscle out any other NFL team except Dallas to draft his son. It does sound improbable, but with how the Cowboys' offseason has gone, anything and everything could be on the table in 2025.

Including Shedeur Sanders being the next quarterback of America's Team.
