Could Another All-Pro NFC OT Land With Chargers This Offseason?
Entering the offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers are looking to upgrade their roster in any possible route they can. With new head coach Jim Harbaugh running the show, the Bolts finally have a sense of hope around them.
After finishing with a frustrating 5-12 record this past season, the Chargers do down a top-five draft pick. There has been speculation that the team could look to use their fifth overall pick to land an offensive lineman. Harbaugh loves to beef up his teams in the trenches, and he uses these units to physically wear down opponents.
However, the Bolts could also look to the free agent market to land an upgrade along the line. One player whom the team could have an interest in is, is now expected to be available. That would be veteran tackle David Bakhtiari from the Green Bay Packers.
If Bakhtiari is indeed released, the Chargers could look to try to land him. Harbaugh may prefer a more experienced player along the offensive line in his upgrade, and Bakhtiari could give him a solid option. He is a three-time Pro-Bowler, and the Chargers could use his abilities.
Bakhtiari only played in one game last season, but he was one of the best linemen in 2022. He played 597 snaps, allowing zero sacks and only committing five penalties all year.
He is a disciplined tackle who rarely makes mistakes. Making sure that star quarterback Justin Herbert is upright is the first priority for Harbaugh, and Bakhtiari can help make sure that happens.
The Chargers cap situation isn't the greatest, but they can find a way to land him if he wants to play in Los Angeles. He will have plenty of suitors, but having Harbaugh gives the Bolts an extra card in their pursuit of players.
