Chargers Report Score Predictions: Can LA Upset Detroit In A Sunday Afternoon Bout?

Our experts weigh in!

Tomorrow afternoon, at 1:05 p.m. on CBS, your 4-4 Los Angeles Chargers will host one of the pleasant surprise stories of the NFC this season, the 6-2 Detroit Lions, in an effort to improve to a record above .500 for the first time all year.

Detroit is only slightly favored to win (-3 in most sports books, per The Action Network), which speaks perhaps to the Chargers' recent run of impressive two-way play, as well as their overall talent on both ends of the field.

Our panel of Charger Report experts takes stock of the club's chances on Sunday. Let's just say we're a bit more pessimistic than Vegas.

James Brizuela:

The Chargers' defense has been stellar over their last two games, holding down opponents' ability to score. Over those contests, opposing clubs have averaged a scant 9.5 points per. However, the Lions are no Chicago Bears or New York Jets. The Bolts won't be able to contain Jared Goff and company for long.

Score Prediction: Lions 27, Chargers 17

Alex Kirschenbaum:

Justin Herbert had a pretty uncharacteristically quiet night against the New York Jets' stifling defense last week. The 6'6", 236-pound Oregon product passed for just 136 yards, completing a relatively minimal 16-of-30 pass attempts. He was sacked five times, and registered a passer rating of just 65.4. Look for him to rebound against Detroit, but for the Lions' impressive offensive attack to eventually overpower LA's inconsistent defense on the other end (it was pretty bad prior to the Bears game).

Score Prediction: Lions 30, Chargers 23

Noah Camras:

The Chargers are coming off back-to-back wins, but have a great measuring stick game against a 6-2 Lions team. The Chargers should definitely be one of the bigger upset picks this week, but I don’t think they have the talent to beat a really good Lions squad.

Score Prediction: Lions: 27, Chargers: 24

Ricardo Sandoval:

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming into this Week 10 clash on a two-game win streak. However, those two victories came against teams with a combined record of 6-10. Hey, you have to get the wins when you can, but this week could represent possibly their toughest matchup of the season to date. The Detroit Lions are in the Super Bowl bubble, along with their high-powered offense. The Lions carve up secondaries, throwing for 390.6 yards per game, second in the league. The Chargers, on the other hand, allow 375.8 passing yards to their opponents, 30th in the league. LA will have a tough time slowing down this potent offense in this potential shootout.

Score Prediction: Lions 33, Chargers 24
