Chargers News: Los Angeles Complete Agreement With New GM Joe Hortiz

It's a deal!

Last night, your Los Angeles Chargers finished negotiating their deal with new general manager Joe Hortiz, a source informs Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Hortiz had most recently been the Baltimore Ravens' director of personnel, working in tandem with now-Bolts head coach Jim Harbaugh's brother John.

Los Angeles held its second interview with Hortiz on Friday. Only New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown had nabbed a second interview with LA during the club's front office search.

Hortiz had been with Baltimore from 1998 through this season. Following a three-year stint as a personnel assistant, Hortiz then worked in a variety of scouting roles from 2001-18 before assuming his most recent gig with the club, director of player personnel. The Ravens during Hortiz's tenure have numbered among the most successful programs in the NFL, having won two titles.

Following a brutal 63-21 Week 15 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, LA owner Dean Spanos opted to fire both general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Brandon Staley with time to spare on the season. Ironically, Telesco has had multiple conversations about assuming Vegas' GM role this offseason.

Now, the Chargers have wholly reimagined their front office and their coaching staff. Harbaugh and Hortiz will bring major championship pedigree to bear for an LA team that's been sorely lacking in that department.
