Newsome Doesn't Practice for Third Straight Day
The Cleveland Browns took the practice field for the final time before this Sunday’s game with the Tennessee Titans on Friday. A key starter on the Browns defense was held out again, decreasing the chance that he will be able to play in the game.
Starting cornerback Greg Newsome who suffered who is dealing with what is being categorized as a hyperextended elbow has not been able to practice the entire week.
The injury occurred during Monday night’s game when Newsome tackled Steelers receiver Miles Boykin after a catch. It appeared that Newsome had his arm awkwardly pinned underneath as Boykin rolled on top of it. Newsome remained on the ground in pain and was attended to by trainers before exiting to the locker room.
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski said the day after the game that Newsome’s injury was considered day to day. By not practicing today, I would think that him playing on Sunday is quite the long shot.
That would be a huge loss to the secondary who has been outstanding. During Monday night’s broadcast the announcer team said that Jim Schwartz called Newsome the best slot corner in football.
The team would rely on Mike Ford to play the nickel with rookie Cam Mitchell backing him up. Rookie cornerback Kahlef Hailassie may also see his first snaps after being an inactive the first two weeks. Another option could be to call up A.J. Green from the practice squad.
Stefanski will speak to the media after practice and as always we will have the offial injury report later this afternoon. The Friday release always has the official game status included.
