Bengals Rookie DJ Ivey Confident Ahead of NFL Debut Against Packers
DJ Ivey is hoping to make the Bengals 53-man roster. The rookie cornerback has impressed the coaching staff up to this point.
He's made an impact with his 4.4 speed and 6-foot-1 frame. His playmaking ability has been on full display over the past few weeks. Will it translate to actual games? That's the next hurdle for the seventh round pick.
“I feel like it’s going pretty well but I still need to clean up a couple more things,” Ivey told All Bengals. “There’s always room for improvement, not everything is perfect and I have to just keep improving on little things. My presses, recognizing coverages, recognizing routes when they’re coming out of the snap and stuff like that so there’s always room for improvement.”
Ivey will be aiming to outshine Jalen Davis, Allen George, Sidney Jones IV, Larry Brooks and Marvell Tell III on Friday and throughout the preseason.
The competition has not phased him one bit.
“I’m confident in my preparation so we’ll see what happens,” Ivey said. “Just really have to hone in on all of the details that they provide, study the playbook, watch the film so I really just have to lock in.”
The former Miami Hurricane totaled 38 tackles, five defended passes and two interceptions last season. The Bengals took him with the 246th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
