Lakers Player Gets Honest on Jordan Poole

D'Angelo Russell was not expecting Jordan Poole to be great.

Even though Jordan Poole had a bumpy final season with the Golden State Warriors, he was a pleasant surprise for the team. Many in the NBA didn't expect him to be as great as he was, including other players like D'Angelo Russell.

Russell was a guest on the Pat Bev Pod where he gave a very candid opinion about Poole to Patrick Beverley.

“I didn’t know he was going to be as nice as he was," Russell said. "I thought Tyler Herro might be better than him. Dray was like, ‘I don’t know JP got some sh*t.”

Poole's progression from year by year has been a treat to watch, but especially from year two to year three. From year to year, he averaged 8.8 points, 12.0 points, 18.5 points, and 20.4 points. In year three specifically, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds on 45/36/93 shooting. His numbers were on par with anything that D'Angelo Russell has done, except for his 2019 season with the Brooklyn Nets.

The situation with Jordan Poole and the Golden State Warriors will always be an incredibly unfortunate one. It felt like he was about to be the new young face of the franchise to help take over once Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were no more. Instead, he was unexpectedly traded after a shocking argument with Draymond Green. Only time will tell if the move is something that bites the Warriors.
