Former Warriors Champion Gets Released
It was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic that former Golden State Warriors champion JaVale McGee has been waived by the Dallas Mavericks. Once he clears waivers, McGee will become a free agent.
There have been some who believe a reunion between McGee and the Warriors would work well for both sides, as Golden State could use some veteran front court depth, and McGree of course would presumably be seeking a roster spot on a contender.
An NBA champion with both the Warriors and Lakers, McGee is very experienced. Understanding what it takes to win at the highest level, McGee should have an opportunity somewhere, even if that isn't with Golden State. While he is of course not the player he once was, McGee would at worst be a solid veteran presence for whatever team he signed with.
As previously mentioned, the Warriors could use some front court depth, which has been an area of weakness for them. Often too reliant on Draymond Green and Kevon Looney to split time at the five, Golden State could use another big man off their bench, even if that isn't McGee. Having moved away from their two-timeline plan, perhaps the Warriors would be more open to adding another veteran to the end of their bench than they would have been the last two seasons.
