Karl-Anthony Towns back for Timberwolves for Tuesday's game at OKC

Towns averages 22.2 points per game this season.

Karl-Anthony Towns is back for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves announced Towns would start Tuesday night’s game at the Oklahoma City Thunder after missing Saturday’s game in Sacramento due to left knee soreness. Towns was listed as questionable leading up to Tuesday’s game.

While Minnesota beat the Kings on Saturday in his absence, Towns’ return is a welcomed sight for the first-place Timberwolves. He’s the team’s second-leading scorer at 22.2 points per game and also averages 9.5 rebounds and three assists.

Towns’ injury was not expected to be a long-term issue, but the quick return is a good sign for Minnesota, which was without the longtime franchise staple for a significant portion of the 2022-23 season due to a calf injury. The Timberwolves struggled in his absence and had to win a play-in game to reach the postseason.

Towns’ presence is a big reason why Minnesota has been able to jump out to an NBA-best 22-6 record this season.
