Suns Postseason Scenarios
The Phoenix Suns need a little help to sneak into a playoff spot.
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns have just two games left in the regular season and are still fighting for a playoff spot.
They'll need some help this weekend if they're able to avoid the play-in tournament.
After the Dallas Mavericks won on Wednesday, Phoenix can climb no higher than the No. 6 seed out West, which provides an ultimate "sixth seed or bust" mentality as seeds 7-10 are play-in tournament spots.
For tonight, it's simple: The Suns are locked into a play-in spot with a loss AND a New Orleans Pelicans win.
All 30 NBA teams are in action tonight. Phoenix takes on the Sacramento Kings while New Orleans battles the Golden State Warriors.
The only other clinching scenario out West tonight is Denver gaining the No. 1 seed with a win coupled with losses by the Minnesota Timberwolves AND Oklahoma City Thunder.
It's a big night for the Suns, as the season series is drawn at 2-2 with Sacramento. A win would ensure they at least are the No. 7 seed and would host a play-in tournament game if they ultimately landed in that territory while keeping themselves alive for an actual playoff spot.
Phoenix holds the season tie-breaker over New Orleans but need the Pelicans to drop one of their remaining games to find themselves level and thus out of play-in territory. New Orleans faces the Lakers on Sunday while Phoenix will battle the Timberwolves on the final day of the season.
