The Brooklyn Nets have traded Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Doran Finney-Smith, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2029 second-round pick.

Dinwiddie, who rejoins the Nets after spending five seasons with the organization, took to Twitter to react to the Sunday blockbuster trade.

After struggling to find a secure home in the league, Dinwiddie had himself a household name in the borough. The guard, who was discovered in the G League playing for the Chicago Bulls affiliate, the Long Island Nets, helped Brooklyn become a playoff-caliber team and an attractive free-agent destination.

In his time with the Nets, Dinwiddie averaged 14.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 274 games played. The guard helped lead Brooklyn to two playoff appearances (2018-19, 2019-20).

For the Mavericks, the team has solidified the newest superstar backcourt in the league. Outside of finally providing All-Star guard Luka Doncic with a superstar, Dallas has put itself in a position to get over the hump and become a realistic Western Conference contender. Irving also gets to be coached by Jason Kidd; a player he grew up watching during his time with the New Jersey Nets.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Nets and Mavericks trade talks accelerated on a trade on Sunday. The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn had several conversations on a potential deal, but the Nets preferred the Mavs package - a package that includes a point guard (Dinwiddie) and a wing (Finney-Smith) along with draft capital.

There is no update at the time of this writing on a possible new contract for Irving.
