Magic Depth Creating 'Congested' Roster?
ORLANDO - For as much depth as the Orlando Magic has accumulated in recent years, there's only so many minutes to go around.
Bleacher Report broke down each NBA team and described them in one word.
While Bleacher Report lauded the young core Orlando has put together, it described the young team as "congested."
"The core of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Anthony Black and Wendell Carter Jr. all need major minutes. Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs and Jett Howard are all recent top-15 picks as well. The Magic paid [Joe] Ingles too much (two years, $22 million) for him to ride the bench, and Gary Harris started 42 of his 48 games last season," Bleacher Report writes. "We're already at a full 10-man rotation without even factoring in [Jonathan] Isaac, Moe Wagner, Chuma Okeke, Goga Bitadze or Caleb Houstan yet."
How Orlando head coach Jamahl Mosley makes the pieces fit will be interesting to see, especially in the backcourt. While Black and Howard need playing time to develop, Orlando also needs to progress from a developing team to one that's in the playoff picture throughout next season.
The Magic's depth could also mean a trade will be on the horizon. Fultz, Anthony and Harris are each in the final year of their contracts. Ingles' deal also comes with a team option after the first year, so moving him near the trade deadline if he isn't a good fit is also feasible.
While Vicks isn't going to solve the Magic's 'congestion,' having too many players and not enough minutes is a good problem to have compared to being on the other side of the spectrum. At some point, the pieces are going to fit, Orlando just needs to hope they put the puzzle together before it's too late into the season.
