Lakers News: Why Longtime Pundit Loves Christian Wood Signing

He could play a big role this season.

Now that he has finally inked a deal with the purple and gold after a rumor that he'd sign with your Los Angeles Lakers all offseason long, many are optimistic that Christian Wood will play a significant role in the LA's plans this season.

With many surrounding the team fired up that he's now on the roster, analysts everywhere have shared similar confidence that the move will pay off.

Wood's offensive game has never been questioned as the center has consistently put up high scoring numbers with a good three point shot.

Should the Lakers play Anthony Davis at his preferred position of power forward, Wood immediately becomes a candidate to join him in the frontcourt as the starting center in Los Angeles.

Though the Lakers signed Jaxson Hayes away from the Pelicans in addition to Wood, the veteran big man may have seniority in this regard due to his skill set meshing better with Davis' defensive game.

On that front, Wood's never been a lockdown paint presence when trying to prevent points at the rim, but paired with Davis and some good coaching, we may finally see the seven footer improve on that side of the ball.

Out of the Mavs regular lineup and falling out of Jason Kidd's rotation, a change was inevitable for both Wood and Dallas.

Signing a two-year minimum deal with LA, Wood may be able to prove such a low risk deal into a championship winning move.

Among the many signings the Lakers made, Wood joins Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, the aforementioned Hayes and Gabe Vincent as the newest additions to the purple and gold.

Joining Lebron James and Davis alongside Rui Hachimura, Austin Reaves and D'Angelo Russell, Wood could be the missing piece for a championship roster in 2024.
