Lakers Injury Report: LA To Sit Key Starters For Meaningless Preseason Game

Not entirely surprising.

Well, this is going to be anticlimactic.

When your Los Angeles Lakers suit up at the Honda Center in Anaheim later this evening against All-Stars De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, along with the rest of their Sacramento Kings, they'll be doing so with at least three of their projected starters (and possibly a fourth, though his ultimate rotation fate is up in the air) riding pine.

LA head coach Darvin Ham has revealed that All-NBA small forward LeBron James, center Anthony Davis, shooting guard Austin Reaves, and forwards Jarred Vanderbilt and Cam Reddish will sit out tonight, according to Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times.

Reddish (ankle) and Vanderbilt (heel) are dealing with known injuries, but it seems like the Lakers are shelving their three best players for rest.

To be fair, the preseason as a concept is entirely outmoded in today's NBA. Players take massive portions of the season off in the name of "load management," as they strive to keep their bodies as fresh as possible for the postseason. Funnily enough, James and Davis have been vocally averse to this practice in theory, even though both get hurt all the time at this stage in their careers (both are 30+).
