Charlotte Hornets and Nick Richards agree on a 3 Year Extension

Nick Richards signs a 3 year extension with the Charlotte Hornets

With the Hornets now mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the focus now moves onto the offseason. Charlotte aren't waiting around, as they have decided already Nick Richards is a keeper and have extended him to a 3 year $15 million deal.

This is a well deserved extension for Richards, he's done a great job playing his best basketball of the season while covering for the injured Mark Williams. He has averaged 10 rebounds a game since moving into the starting lineup and had double doubles in 50% of his starts.

Richards has been getting better the more he played this season and has had a  career best year.

Monday's performance against the Pacers surely helped cement the team's decision to resign him, and it didn't take them long signing the deal just 48 hours later.

An argument can be made that Richards is Mitch Kupchack's best second round choice in his tenure as the Hornets General Manager. It would have been a mistake letting Richards test free agency.

Congratulations Mr. Richards on obtaining your second contract in the NBA. Hopefully, Richards continues to improve and can contribute to bringing the Hornets  back to the playoffs.
