Memphis Grizzlies Sign Former Duke Star

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed a new player.

The Memphis Grizzlies need some help. Day after day, Memphis somehow gets a new injury that leaves the team a little bit more hobbled. Now, it looks like they had to finally get some help after even their G League players became hurt.

According to a report from Shams Charania and Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the Memphis Grizzlies are signing forward Matthew Hurt to a 10-day contract via hardship out of their G League Hustle team.

Matthew Hurt was averaging 22.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in the G League and was a former star at Duke University. During the 2020-21 season at Duke, Hurt was averaging 18.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 56/44/72 shooting. He was first-team All-ACC in 2021, the ACC's Most Improved Player in 2021, a McDonald's All-American in 2019, and Minnesota Mr. Basketball in 2019.

In terms of potential, there is certainly something there for Matthew Hurt. He's put up fantastic numbers in the G League and had some solid credentials while in college. He will definitely have the opportunity to prove himself as an NBA player while the Grizzlies are in desperate need of support. These are the moments that can make or break the career of a young player trying to make it into the league. Hopefully, Hurt can find his footing with the Grizzlies.
