Tyrese Maxey Shares Special Moment After Sixers' Major Win vs. Spurs

Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers collected a big win on Sunday night, leading the Maxey family to celebrate after the W.

In his home state of Texas, Tyrese Maxey shined en route to a Philadelphia 76ers win.

The victory didn’t come easily for Maxey and his teammates. As the San Antonio Spurs would not go down without a fight, the Sixers needed to go into double-overtime for the game to be settled on Sunday.

And for Maxey, he had to spend over 50 minutes on the court as he simply had it going.

With 41 shots taken, Maxey averaged over 45 percent on his field goals. He had an uncharacteristic outing from deep, draining just 20 percent of his threes, but the former Kentucky standout’s fearlessness got him many trips to the line, and opportunities to score while attacking the basket.

At the end of the night, Maxey finished the game with 52 points. For the third time this season, he scored 50 and once again exceeded his career-high. When it was all said and done, Maxey offered up his game-worn jersey to his grandma and shared a special moment with his family on the court of the Frost Bank Center after a gutsy victory.

With Sunday’s win, the Sixers advanced to 44-35 on the year. With some help from the Indiana Pacers, who defeated the Miami Heat before the Sixers’ matchup concluded, Philadelphia managed to move up to the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference standings. They aren’t out of Play-In territory, but they can lock-in home-court for the tournament if they remain in front of Miami.

As for Maxey, he’ll get a much-needed day off on Monday. Then on Tuesday, the Sixers will return their home court to fire up the final week of the regular season. They begin the final stretch of their run with a matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

If all goes right, Maxey and the rest of the Sixers’ starting unit will get a boost with the return of Joel Embiid, who managed his knee injury on Sunday.
