Joel Embiid Makes Appearance in Former 76ers Guard's Dream Starting Lineup
During his 15 years in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers were among JJ Redick's six stops. The three-point specialist had some of his best seasons in Philly, averaging nearly 18 points per game across two seasons.
Following the 2021 season, Redick decided to put an end to his playing days. Since then, he's pivoted to a career in broadcasting and podcast. His "The Old Man and The Three" podcast has become a big hit among basketball fans.
In one of his recent episodes, Redick put together a dream starting five consisting of just his former teammates. He ended up naming two players from his time with the Sixers, Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler. The other three players were Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), Vince Carter (Orlando Magic), and Blake Griffin (LA Clippers).
Butler and Redick were teammates for just two-thirds of a season after he was traded to the Sixers from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Sixers' star-studded lineup look poised to make a run at the title that year. However, their aspirations came to an end at the hands of a historic game-winner from Kawhi Leonard.
Seeing how outspoken Redick has been of Embiid, it's not shocking to see him wind up on this list. Over the past two years, the journeyman guard has been very adamant about Embiid's MVP cases.
Redick joined the Sixers in 2017 after signing a massive free agent deal. As an elite perimeter shooter, he instantly thrived playing off Embiid and Ben Simmons. Of all his years, Redick has his highest PPG averages during his time with the Sixers.
Redick departed from the Sixers in the 2019 offseason to join the New Orleans Pelicans. He'd play just two more seasons after leaving before retiring at the age of 36.
