2017 NBA draft grades: Nuggets add shooting, size in Tyler Lydon via reported trade with Jazz

The Nuggets made marginal improvements this season behind the stellar play of young Serbian big man Nikola Jokic, finishing with a 40-42 record and narrowly missing the cut for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

So far, Denver has seen minimal production from a big 2016 draft haul, getting 9.9 PPG from former Kentucky guard Jamal Murray, who was the No. 7 pick. Denver had three first-round picks last year, drafting Murray, Juan Hernangomez and Malik Beasley. They also drafted Petr Cornelie in the second round.

Round 1, Pick 24 (via Jazz): Tyler Lydon, F, Syracuse

The Nuggets moved down in the draft from No. 13 in a deal with the Jazz and take Lydon here, adding some size and shooting to their young roster. There’s a wide difference of opinion on him. Some see a legitimate big man who can shoot the three, others see an inconsistent player who may not be mobile or springy enough to cut it in the NBA. He has a clear path to becoming a role player, but ultimately, this is a bit underwhelming. Denver also got Trey Lyles in this deal with Utah, who plays the same position.
