Yankees Reportedly Showing 'Early Interest' In Superstar Duo In Free Agency

It sounds like the Yankees could end up landing multiple star pitchers this offseason

The New York Yankees could end up landing multiple aces this offseason in free agency.

New York's starting rotation needs some work. The Yankees have American League Cy Young Award front-runner Gerrit Cole and one-time All-Star Nestor Cortés but need to make one or two additions this offseason. It's clear that the Yankees know this and reportedly have been extremely active so far this offseason and are pursuing Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Philadelphia Phillies star Aaron Nola, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"Yankees are among the most active teams in the starting pitching market, and sources say they're showing early interest in Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Aaron Nola, among others," Morosi said.

New York has been linked to both Yamamoto and Nola in the past. It isn't too surprising that the Yankees have shown interest, but it is interesting that they are pursuing both. If New York could somehow land both Yamamoto and Nola, it immediately would have one of the best starting rotations in baseball on paper.

Yamamoto will be the most sought-after free-agent pitcher this offseason. He compiled a career 1.72 ERA in seven seasons with the Buffaloes and a stellar 75-30 record. Nola has been one of the most dependable pitchers in baseball since debuting with the Phillies in 2015. He had a down year in 2023, but still pitched 193 2/3 innings and impressed in the playoffs.

New York needs to make a major splash this offseason after winning just 82 games in 2023 and it sounds like it's willing to do that in order to get back to the postseason.
