The Game
The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a 2 RBI double by Bubba Thompson. That scored Jonah Heim and Travis Jankowski. Ezequiel Duran followed that with an RBI double that scored Thompson to give Texas a 3-0 lead.
That was preceded by two perfect innings on the mound by Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi, making his spring training debut after signing a free-agent deal with the Rangers this offseason. He struck out four and walked none.
The Royals battled back in the top of the fourth against the Rangers' Dane Dunning. Hunter Dozier singled, followed by an MJ Melendez ground-rule double to move Dozier to third. Dozier and Melendez scored on Matt Duffy's single. Nicky Lopez followed with a walk. Dairon Blanco walked to load the bases and the Rangers made a pitching chance to Antoine Kelly. He gave up a Nick Pratto single, which scored Duffy and Lopez to give the Royals a 4-3 lead. After that, Tyler Tolbert hit a three-run home run to give Kansas City a 7-3 lead.
The Royals added a run in the fifth to make it 8-3, and another run in the seventh to make it 9-3.
The Rangers lost, 10-5, with their other runs coming in the ninth on a Justin Fosvue home run and a Jonathan Ornelas run scored on a wild pitch.
