The Padres' late case for a playoff push took a hit Saturday night with their loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings Saturday night. They now fall to five games behind in the NL Wild Card race and cannot afford to lose too many more games before they are officially eliminated.

In other news, Manny Machado opened up about his elbow injury and his adoption of the DH role, Bob Melvin is seeking a difference in his team lately and Joe Musgrove could return this season if the Padres pull off the impossible.
