Padres News: Manny Machado Reveals Friars’ Goal for Rest of Season

The Friars are controlling what they can control.

With just three games remaining, there is a chance that the Padres could make an appearance in the postseason. However, don't get too excited.

For San Diego to earn a spot in the NL Wild Card, they need the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins to lose their four remaining games and the Cincinnati Reds to lose two of their last three. And, obviously, the Friars need to win their remaining three games.

That's a lot of losing, and the Padres can't do anything other than scream at their TVs like the rest of us.

Manny Machado knows that the Padres' odds of making the postseason are slim. The team captain was a part of the third-most expensive roster on Opening Day. The other two, owned by the New York Yankees and New York Mets have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Machado isn't too distracted with the complexity of the Padres' playoff chances. But he does have a goal in mind.

“Our goal right now is to finish above .500,” Machado said. “After the year we’ve had, just finish strong. I think that’s the biggest goal is finish the season off on a high note.”

The Padres have an off day Thursday before they travel north for a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics, who possess the worst record in baseball.
