Padres News: Manny Machado Finally Addresses That Culture Story, ‘A Lot of Quotes Were Left Out’
Recently, a bombshell of a report came out about the San Diego Padres clubhouse leadership and the dysfunction that has taken place within. It said that the leaders of the team weren’t present and didn’t have the capability to elevate a team.
The report essentially called out star third baseman Manny Machado within it, but that the Padres have had multiple problems. With all of the struggles that the team has seen this season, it’s unfair to blame one person. It has taken the entire team playing underwhelmingly throughout the year, so it’s unfortunate that this came out.
Machado opened up about the report, saying that “a lot of quotes were left out”.
While this report was unfair, it has raised some questions about the leadership of the Padres. There is no reason why this team has struggled so much during this season after they put together such a strong off-season. But as Machado says, “That’s just baseball”.
The selective accountability for some of the Padres star players may play a role in how this season has gone, but they have given it their all. They have showed up each day, and put forth their best effort. It just didn’t translate to wins on the field.
Key members have come to the defense of Machado after the report came out, which is always nice to see. You can’t blame him fully for what has transpired this season in San Diego, but he does deserve some of the blame pie.
As one of the leaders of the team, Machado will take whatever praise comes the Padres way. But he also will get whatever criticism and blame that comes the organizations' way as well — it’s just part of being a star player in the league.
Nobody could have predicted that this season would turn out this way, but it’s the reality that the Padres find themselves in. All they can do now is keep competing and move on past all of this drama that surrounds them.
