Will the Angels Ever Hire An Assistant GM?
The Los Angeles Angels parted ways with former assistant general manager Alex Tamin in October and haven't hired a replacement.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters, which included Halos Today's J.P. Hoornstra, Tuesday in Glendale, Ariz., that he’s open to hiring an assistant general manager, but only “if there’s somebody I feel like is the right fit.”
The team parted ways with Alex Tamin after last season, leaving Minasian without an assistant GM in title for 2024.
“We’ll see,” Minasian said. “It’s possible. We have very talented people in the organization. Like I said, I like how things are going. We split up duties to a certain extent between different guys. It’s good for development, too. They’re being exposed to different things. They have more on their plate than they did in the past. I think it only makes the group better. I’m very happy with where we’re at.”
Tamin worked directly under Minasian for the last three years with the Angels after a three-year stint with the Atlanta Braves. Before Atlanta, Tamin spent six seasons in baseball operations with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Minasian is the only baseball operations executive listed under the "front office" section of the Angels' website, a rarity for a major league team. He's far from the only baseball ops executive in Anaheim, however, and clearly Minasian is confident his colleagues can absorb Tamin's duties in 2024.
