Angels News: Writer Predicts Shohei Ohtani’s 2023 is One of MLB’s Greatest Seasons Ever
It's no secret that Shohei Ohtani is arguably the best baseball player of our generation, but he's gearing up to get the biggest contract in MLB history this offseason, and it seems like he had something else to prove.
Ohtani has been on an absolute tear this year. He leads the team in virtually every stat possible, and he's hit 31 home runs before the All-Star break. If he were to do that exact same thing in the second half of the season, he would tie Aaron Judge's record that was set just last year.
But to put him into even more legendary company, a writer from The Athletic thinks that Shohei Ohtani might have one of the highest WAR seasons of all time:
Bold prediction: Shohei Ohtani will eclipse 13.0 WAR
Since 1900, only three players have compiled more than 13.0 WAR in a season, according to the Baseball-Reference version of the stat. Walter Johnson put up 16.5 WAR in 1913 and 14.3 in 1912; Babe Ruth put up 14.1 WAR in 1923; and Dwight Gooden accumulated 13.3 in 1985. Not only will Ohtani reach 13.0, but he will clinch what will be the greatest “walk” year of all time, surpassing Aaron Judge’s 62-homer campaign last year.

So, if Ohtani breaks Babe Ruth's record of 14.1, will the comparisons to Ruth finally be over and can we just all agree that Shohei Ohtani is on a whole different level than Babe?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
