Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma throws no-hitter against Orioles
Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma threw the fourth no-hitter of the 2015 MLB season on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.
Iwakuma walked three batters and struck out seven in a 3–0 Seattle victory.
Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager made a nice play in foul territory to catch a pop-up for the first out of the ninth inning. Gerardo Parra flied out to center for the final out of the game.
It was the first complete game of Iwakuma’s four-year MLB career; he threw 48 complete games during his 11 seasons in Japan.
Iwakuma joins Chris Heston, Max Scherzer and Cole Hamels as the only pitchers to throw a no-hitter this season. The last Mariners pitcher to throw a no-hitter was Felix Hernandez, who pitched a perfect game on Aug. 15, 2012. There have now been five no-hitters in Seattle franchise history.
The Orioles had not been no-hit since 2007.
