Fantasy Football ADP Analysis: Breshad Perriman
Should fantasy football players buy in to Breshad Perriman now that he’s a member of the Jets? Sports Illustrated’s fantasy football analysts discuss if Perriman is a good fit for New York’s Offense.
After bouncing around the league the last few seasons, Breshad Perriman now finds himself as a member of the Jets after signing a one-year, $8 million contract this offseason. A first round selection by the Ravens in 2015, Perriman spent the 2019 season with the Buccaneers and saw career highs in yards (645), touchdowns (six), and catches (36). For the majority of his career, Perriman has battled various injuries and typically under-performed (those career high stats are exactly becoming of a first round pick). With an Average Draft Position of 158th overall and the 59th wide receiver, Perriman won’t cost much to acquire but is that draft equity better used elsewhere? Sports Illustrated’s fantasy football analyst Shawn Childs and JetsCountry editor Kristian Dyer discuss drafting Perriman in 2020 fantasy football leagues.

Bill Enright: Should fantasy football players buy into Breshad Perriman now that he's a member of the New York Jets? Let's find out what our experts think by bringing on Sports Illustrated's fantasy analyst Shawn Childs and Jets Country's, Kristian Dyer. Kristian, I'm going to start with you. The Jets gave Perriman a one year, eight million dollar deal. He's been kind of a let down throughout his career. He had a couple of good games in 2019. How does he fit into this Jets offense?
Kristian Dyer: Yeah, he had a couple of good games, and he was doing it mainly from a reserve role with Tampa Bay. He only had six starts this past year and he's gonna be called out really to replace Robby Anderson's production. And I think a lot of Jets fans were sad to see Anderson go. There's a reason for that. He was the only true playmaker on the roster. When you talk about someone who could do something special. Not that legal. He had that combined with some good straight lines. But Anderson was plagued by drought. And when you look at Perriman, a very similar player in terms of there's a lot to prove. He's a former first round pick. This is now going to be his third team he's been a part of--Pardon me I believe his fourth team that he's going to be a part of. So there's definitely something to prove here on a one year deal. He's actually faster in terms of 40 time than Robby Anderson. He's got a hundred yards per catch and a higher touchdown to catch ratio than Anderson did in 2019 with the Jets. I think there's a good chance that Perriman could put up some good numbers behind the revamped offensive line here in New York.
Bill Enright: Shawn when I'm looking at his average drop position, he's coming off the board as the 59th wide receiver. Are you buying him at that price?
Shawn Childs: I'm probably going to fade him, I'm a little more on that Denzel Mims camp. And, you know, Perriman did really well over those five games for Tampa with 500 yards, 25 catches and 5 touchdowns. But before that, he only caught a third of his targets earlier in the year. And the over his first three seasons in the NFL, though, his catch rate was under 50 percent. So I think he'll add big play ability. I like what he did and I would like for him to build on it. I'm just not sure if everything adds up together. Especially with Mims, I think he's a little more talent all around for me. So I think I would probably maybe pick him up at a discount. But as in a fantasy market, I'll probably fade him a little bit.
