F1 Fans Praise Oscar Piastri After The Professional Way He Responded To Lost Position
Oscar Piastri learned the hard way that he had lost three places after the Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying during an interview in Parc Ferme, when Sky Sports reporter Naomi Schiff told him about the penalty. But his cool response received immense praise from fans on social media.
Piastri had his final lap time deleted for a track limits violation but, he was unaware of the verdict after Qualifying. Quite naturally, he went to the interview area assuming that he had qualified P3.

The Australian driver thought he had the position because his teammate Lando Norris' lap time was deleted as well which brought him down from the 2nd to the 10th position.
When Piastri turned up, interviewer Schiff asked him why he was there. Just as he was explaining to her about his teammate's lap deletion, the reporter received communication through her earpiece that Piastri had his qualifying time deleted by the stewards as well.
She then told him of what had been done:
"We're just hearing that you've had a track limits infringement.
"Did you know that something was under investigation for your track limits as well?"
Piastri's response was worthy of praise because despite hearing about the lap time deletion from the reporter live on TV, he remained cool and handled himself like a champ. He laughed before saying "I didn't know, but this is fun isn't it?"
After being told that he was pushed down to sixth place, he said, "Wonderful", before leaving the area. Later on, after having known about his penalty, Piastri opened up about the lap deletion on F1 TV. He said:
"It's a shame. The car felt reasonable, I just pushed a little bit hard on that last lap, which is a shame because the car was quick.
"We obviously get another crack at qualifying [the sprint shootout] tomorrow, and then the Sprint too. So yeah, we'll see what we can do. It's very tight and so easy to make mistakes with the track very slippery, which is not making things easy for us."
A post on social media platform X lauded the 22-year-old for the way he handled bad news like a pro and fans joined in to share similar feelings. We're sharing a few comments that explain the general opinion.
