Seattle Mariners Place Ty France on Paternity Leave, Recall Speester From Minors

Heading into Friday night's series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Seattle Mariners have placed first baseman Ty France on the paternity list and recalled speedster Samad Taylor from Triple-A.

Heading into Friday night's series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Seattle Mariners have placed first baseman Ty France on the paternity list. In exchange, they have called up speedster Samad Taylor from Triple-A.

Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 had the information on social media:

Ty France has been placed on the Paternity List, Samad Taylor up from Tacoma to take his place.

France can be on the paternity list for anywhere between 1-3 days. It's unknown at this time how much time he plans to use. The news is obviously great for the France Family, and we congratulate him on the growth of his family.

However, his absence comes up at a tough time for the Mariners, who have struggled to get anything going offensively in the early going. France is the one Mariners player who has hit in the early going, hitting .320 with a .370 on-base percentage.

The former All-Star is working to get back to prior form, as he struggled mightily in 2023, hitting just .250 with 12 home runs.

In Taylor, the M's are getting a speedster who has the ability to make things happen on the basepaths. The 25-year-old made his Major League debut with the Kansas City Royals last season, hitting .200 in 60 at-bats. He stole eight bases and the M's acquired him this offseason in a minor deal with the Royals.

The Mariners and Brewers will open their series on Friday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. Logan Gilbert will pitch for Seattle.
