Bobby Witt Jr. Joins Elite Group in Baseball History with Huge Game on Thursday
The Kansas City Royals routed the Houston Astros on Thursday, 13-3, as Bobby Witt Jr. did something only a select group of elite players have ever done.
The Kansas City Royals routed the Houston Astros on Thursday by a score of 13-3. The Royals put together a historic first-inning, pounding out 11 hits and nine runs, however, that wasn't the only history that was made at Kauffman Stadium.
Per Baseball is Dead on social media:
Bobby Witt Jr. is the 3rd-youngest player ever (since RBI became a stat) to have a game with at least 2 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R and a SB, behind only Jimmie Foxx (1929) and Byron Buxton (2017).
Witt Jr., just 23 years old, is already one of the most exciting players in all of baseball. He's hitting .358 this season with four homers, eight RBI and three stolen bases in the early going. This comes off the heels of a season in which he hit 30 homers and stole 49 bases.
With Witt Jr. at the center, the Royals have a real chance to be competitive again this season. At 9-4, the team is just 0.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central, and given the mediocrity of the division as a whole, it stands to reason that they could be in the race all year.
In addition to Witt Jr.s excellence, the team spent more than $100 million in free agency on Michael Wacha, Seth Lugo, Adam Frazier, Hunter Renfroe, Will Smith and Chris Stratton. Thus far, the additions seem to be paying off.
The Royals will begin a series on the road at the New York Mets on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. ET.
