WVU Signee Carmelo Adkins Requests Release from NLI

West Virginia loses a long-time commitment.

Thursday evening, West Virginia signee Carmelo Adkins announced that he has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent following the hire of Darian DeVries and the new staff and will re-open his recruitment.

The combo guard out of Hudson, Ohio was West Virginia's lone recruit in the 2024 class, choosing the Mountaineers back in November over the likes of UT-Arlington, Holy Cross, and others.

"Very grateful for Coach McCabe, Coach Eilert, Jay Kuntz, and the entire staff for giving me an opportunity to play at WVU. With the new coaching staff coming in, I would like to announce I've requested a release from my National Letter of Intent at WVU. At this time, I will be re-opening my recruitment for the betterment of my academic and athletic career. Thanks to all the fans and local media for the support during my recruitment."

Shortly after Adkins made his announcement, West Virginia picked up a guard in the 2024 class in KJ Tenner, who initially committed to play for Coach DeVries at Drake.
