USC Football: Writer Reveals Most Fearsome Notre Dame Defender For Caleb Williams

A tough man to stop.

One of college football's biggest rivalries adds another chapter on Saturday as your USC Trojans face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the gridiron once again.

USC, led by Caleb Williams is hoping to stay undefeated against Notre Dame and their talented defensive star.

Thuc Nhi Nguyen of The Los Angeles Times detailed the challenges ahead for the Men of Troy's offensive line against one of the best defenders in the nation.

"USC’s Heisman-winning quarterback also is trying to shake off his worst performance of the season. Williams will face a fierce Notre Dame front led by defensive lineman Howard Cross III, who leads all FBS linemen with 42 tackles."

Williams was uncharacteristically inaccurate on several passes last weekend against the Arizona Wildcats in the third consecutive sloppy showing overall for the team.

The Trojans' third straight unranked conference opponent took them to triple overtime and Williams bailed out his poor defense once again with his legs this time around.

Many fans may claim a win is a win but Week 7's task to remain undefeated will be quite the challenge thanks to Cross III's presence.

The defensive lineman, much like Williams, is quickly rising above draft boards as an edge setter and overall stopper on Marcus Freeman's unit.

Having already surpassed his tackle total from a year prior, the senior defender could wreak havoc on what's proven to be a shaky USC offensive line.

Williams will certainly need to be on his A-game throughout the contest as two losses on Notre Dame's likely is extra motivation to play spoiler against the Men of Troy.

Lincoln Riley's toughest test of 2023 awaits him and we'll see if he and his roster are up to the test against one of the best defensive players in the country.
