USC Football: Former Heisman Winner Approves Of Caleb Williams-Patrick Mahomes Comparison
Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams could become the second man in college football history to win two Heisman trophies with another stellar start to his 2023 campaign.
Many around the football landscape compared USC's signal-caller to arguably the NFL's best passer today, Patrick Mahomes, and one former Heisman winner agrees with the lofty assessment.
"The throwing off the platform, I completely agree. Being able to throw from every possible angle. He can turn nothing into something. And that's an elite trait that he has. He's just gifted in that way. And I met him for the first time in person when we did the Heisman house commercials and he's a lot bigger than I thought too. He's just a physical specimen and he's able to do it. You can tell the guys love being around him. He enjoys the game too, so he's just fun to watch.
Kansas City traded up to select Mahomes from Texas Tech and turned who many thought to be a project quarterback into the best passer of his generation.
The Chiefs' leader earned an MVP award in his first season as a starter in 2018, a Super Bowl MVP in 2019, and won both awards in the same season last year in 2022.
In the traditional sense, Mahomes redefined what it meant to be a quarterback, as many compared his gunslinging abilities to Brett Favre.
Through strong coaching and wise advice from veteran Alex Smith, Mahomes transformed the Chiefs into the juggernaut they've been for the past six seasons.
Williams is all but secured to be the first overall pick to whoever earns the honor to select him in the 2024 NFL draft, and Mayfield sees a similar Hall of Fame trajectory for Lincoln Riley's latest masterpiece.
