USC Basketball: Super Bowl Event Proposed With Advent Of Trojans Joining Big Ten
The college basketball world has witnessed some monumental changes over the past couple of months as a number of top universities opted to announce moves to opposing conferences in search of bigger markets and better opportunities. There has been plenty to unpack following all of these events and it is clear that while sports fans will get to see new rivalries unfold, the pressure on certain schools will be at an all-time high.
The University of Southern California will be moving to the Big Ten Conference in 2024 and will carry a long history of success, iconic student-athletes and trophies along with them. Their athletic department has only grown stronger over the past couple of years and even in their final dance in the Pac-12, they have names like Caleb Williams, Isaiah Collier, Bronny James, Juju Watkins and more repping the red and gold.
Therefore, it is clear that the Trojans as a whole are convinced that this will be the right move for them and The Athletic's Scott Dochterman wants to see USC and the rest of the Big Ten schools make the most of the noise surrounding them right now. Dochterman is calling for the top basketball programs within the conference to host an event on Super Bowl weekend and even suggested that some hoops legends should participate.
"The Big Ten needs to hold a men’s and women’s basketball spectacular on Super Bowl weekend, complete with a pair of all-star games and 3-point shooting displays. Unveil a dunk contest with celebrity and alumni judges. Hold a game of H-O-R-S-E between current and former Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball stars. A lob pass from Illinois’ Terrence Shannon Jr. to Purdue’s Zach Edey?"
"Sign me up. What about former NBA stars Magic Johnson, Jalen Rose and Carmelo Anthony grading dunks? A game of H-O-R-S-E between Ohio State’s Taylor Mikesell and Jon Diebler against Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and Jordan Bohannon? Clark dishing to Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes on a fast break?"

As these programs get comfortable with their new schedules and opponents, we certainly may see events like this one come together to maximize what the conference is building!
