USC Men's Basketball: Former Trojan No Longer Welcome With Current Team After Arrest
Former USC Trojans and current (for now) Houston Rocket guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested on domestic violence charges earlier this offseason. Porter allegedly attacked then-girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick in a hotel room.
Though he still holds a place on Houston's roster, GM Rafael stated that the Trojan product will no longer be welcome on the club, given his tumultuous offseason, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.
"Going back a few weeks, as soon as I heard the allegations, I informed his representatives that he could not be part of the Houston Rockets,” Houston GM Rafael Stone said in a presser. “He has not been with the team or around the team since that time. What’s left for the team to do is to evaluate the step the best steps for our organization that remain in compliance with the league domestic violence policy.”
For as well as he played on the court, off the court chemistry and mental health concerns followed the old USC guard from his original place on the Cavs to his new NBA home in Houston.
This most recent development unfortunately continued the off-court concerns that have plagued Porter's young career in the league.
Stone indicated that the team is searching for a trade partner to take on the guard but his criminal history and clear concerns away from the hardwood would make anyone hesitant to pursue him.
Talent can only take you so far in the league and Porter is seeing his NBA dreams slip through his fingertips for all the wrong reasons other than basketball.
