Longhorns Coach Rodney Terry Receives Big-Time Raise

Texas Longhorns men's basketball interim head coach Rodney Terry has received a much-deserved raise amid an unprecedented season for the program.

Texas Longhorns coach Rodney Terry has received a major raise in his contract, per reports Thursday.

Terry, who took over as acting head coach following the suspension of the now-fired Chris Beard on Dec. 12, will now be making $1.2 million per year, more than doubling his original salary of $500,000 per year. Beard was fired on Jan. 5, officially making Terry the interim head coach.

"He's doing the duties of a head coach, and we chose to adjust his salary as he leads our program the rest of the year," Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said, per AP.

Since Beard's arrest, Terry has led Texas to a 12-4 record. The fifth-ranked Longhorns (19-4, 8-3) are currently in first place in the Big 12, making their way to the top of the conference on the heels of four double-digit comeback wins in league play.

The timing of when the raise went into effect has not been made public, but the program certainly felt Terry had earned it after navigating the team through an unprecedented season. He'll look to continue making his claim as the program's long-term answer at head coach as the season treads on.

The Longhorns host the West Virginia Mountaineers at the Moody Center on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
