Freshman Faces: Arion Carter
The Tennessee season is mere days away and fans are about to get a taste of what the team is all about. Players will get to show themselves off and take the field too finally. One of those players is true freshman linebacker Arion Carter. He is a 6-foot-1-inch prospect from Smyrna, Tennessee. Coming out of high school, Carter was ranked as the second-best overall player from the Volunteer State.
He has gained much traction from everyone around the college football landscape leading up to the season. Here is what he had to say about his time in the Tennessee program thus far. "Just getting in the system and learning the system...I love it here. I am really happy with my decision." On Wednesday, Carter was also named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List. But he will need some serious playing time for that award to come into the picture. Here is what the young linebacker had to say about opportunities he can get on the field.
"I can control what I can control right now. I just go out there every day and show the coaches that I know my assignment, and I know my alignment, and that I am going to play to the standard." The Tennessee linebacker room, and even the front seven as a whole, is deep with talent and experience. Players like Tyler Baron, Aaron Beasley, Roman Harrison, and Keenan Pili may play a lot of times in the linebacker positions. But, Carter could see some minutes as the year goes on.
It remains to be seen if Carter gets enough to be considered for an award much like the Freshman of the Year. But, the preseason nomination shows that it may be in the cards for him. The Tennessee Volunteers kick off the 2023 season on Saturday, September 2nd, in Nashville against the Virginia Cavaliers. Kickoff time is noon E.T.
