TCU is coming off a successful weekend trip to Houston for the final showcase event of the season. Now with a record of 7-4 and having won four out of their last five, the Horned Frogs are set to face off with UT-Arlington once again.

The first matchup on February 22 ended with a 7-3 TCU win, with Louis Rodriguez getting the win out of the bullpen. Braeden Sloan started on the mound in that first game, and will be the starter again tonight.

Sloan has gotten the start in each of the midweek games thus far, the last coming a week ago against Dallas Baptist. He went a full five innings in the contest, only giving up one hit, but giving up what proved to be the Patriots’ only run of the game.

Offensively, the Horned Frogs have seen the ball well at the plate, especially over the weekend in Houston. Tre Richardson and Austin Davis both homered in the Shriner’s Classic and are tied for third on the team in batting average, with a .325 average. Additionally, Anthony Silva, who is second in batting average with .355, has hit safely in eight out of the last nine games.

On the other side, UT-Arlington is coming off of a weekend series with Northwestern State in which they won two of three. The series improved the record for the Mavericks who went in with a record of 2-6, and came out 4-7.

However, UTA is 0-2 in midweek games so far this season, and 3-4 on the road. New coach Clay Van Hook is now at the helm after helping lead the Oklahoma Sooners to the College World Series Final in 2022 as the hitting coach. He takes over for Darin Thomas who led the Mavericks for 15 years before going to Baylor as the director of baseball operations.

UTA has three batters hitting over .300 in Ryan Black, Steven Saunders, and Tyson Pointer. As a team, they have a collective batting average of .247 and average just over five runs a game.

There are a few points of interest in the matchup, as this is the 175th time the two teams have matched up. TCU holds the advantage with a record of 113-60-1. The Horned Frogs are also on a roll as they have won each of the last seven meetings.

Also, if TCU is able to come out on top, it will mark the 450th Horned Frog win at Lupton Stadium and the 100th midweek win at the ballpark since it opened in 2003.
