PFF Names Texas A&M' Trey Zuhn Among Top Returning Offensive Tackles

PFF recognized Texas A&M Aggies lineman Trey Zuhn as one of the top returning offensive tackles.

The Texas A&M Aggies are fortunate enough to have a talented and experienced offensive line heading into the 2024 season under new head coach Mike Elko.

And at the most important position along that line, is left tackle, where Trey Zuhn is considered one of the very best in the nation.

The hype surrounding Zuhn is so good, in fact, that he lands as the number 10 ranked returning offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus.

Said PFF:

Zuhn started for Texas A&M at left tackle over the past two seasons and shined particularly as a pass blocker in 2023, earning a 77.2 grade in that facet to rank sixth among SEC tackles. Overall, the junior was the fifth-highest-graded tackle in the conference (75.7). He and Dametrious Crownover make up one of the best tackle duos in college football.

Throughout the 2023 redshirt sophomore season, Zuhn made appearances in all 12 games, consistently emerging as one of the top-rated pass blockers despite the challenges posed by an otherwise porous offensive line.

Under the leadership of new head coach Mike Elko, the Texas A&M football team has witnessed a resurgence and a renewed sense of optimism. Elko's arrival has brought about significant changes, particularly in acquiring top talent in the offense. Known for his defensive expertise, Elko has implemented strategic schemes and instilled a culture of discipline and resilience within the squad.

However, Texas A&M faced challenges on the offensive front in recent years, particularly with their once-renowned offensive line talent diminishing during the latter years of Jimbo Fisher's tenure.

This decline led to the team rotating multiple quarterbacks due to inadequate protection, evident in their average of 2.31 sacks allowed per game, ranking 89th nationally.

Additionally, the run game struggled, averaging fewer than four yards per attempt. Despite these challenges, Elko's arrival signals a new era of improvement and potential for the Aggies across all facets of the game.

Zuhn's reliable performance in protecting Weigman's blindside undoubtedly brings a sense of comfort to new head coach Mike Elko, allowing him to rest easier at night.
