Where Will Micah Gilbert Commit?

The Gamecocks have been steadfast in their pursuit of targets in the receiving room this offseason. The team has already landed commitments from elite pass-catching talent, such as Nyckoles Harbor and Michael Smith. Though results have been great for South Carolina, they still have plenty of receiving targets left on the board.

One of those top targets is Micah Gilbert, a four-star receiver in the 2024 graduating class. Gilbert, an outstanding athlete from the Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, NC, has his sights set on seven teams and will choose between one of them Tuesday afternoon.

Gilbert is announcing his commitment on Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST, which will be live-streamed via the 247Sports site. The 38th-ranked receiver in the class of 2024 has sparked the interests of many teams which desire his playmaking ability.

Standing at 6-3, Gilbert provides a large frame and utilizes all of it on the field. He frequently hauls in catches fully-extended or over a defender or two. His size is often too much for most defensive backs, who are at a loss when expected to guard someone already built like an SEC WR.

When he isn't using his size to break down secondaries, he can find himself wide open due to his excellent route-running ability. You seldom see a receiver still in high school with refined and developed route-running like Gilbert. Opposing defensive backs are often on the ground before the ball is even thrown, thanks to his ability to change speed and direction on a dime.

Predicting success on the next level will always be difficult while examining a high schooler, but it feels safe to say Gilbert could fit in well as an SEC receiver. He possesses a big frame, which can be scary for opposing defenses when combined with his excellent route-running and athleticism.

The Gamecocks are not favored for the pass-catcher based on what industry experts think. However, they are considered among his top three. Landing Gilbert would further solidify an already dangerous receiving core.
