Pitt Lands Western Carolina Transfer WR

New Pitt Panthers offensive coordinator Kade Bell has his first big transfer portal win.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers and new offensive coordinator Kade Bell made an important addition through the transfer portal this week, bolstering an offense that lost leading receiver Bub Means to the NFL draft this offseason.

Pitt will add a receiver to help fill the void Means leave behind with C.J. Lee, a former Western Carolina wideout who announced his commitment to Pitt during a visit to the Steel City this weekend.

Pitt was the first FBS school to extend an offer to Lee. FCS Rhode Island also reached out with a scholarship offer. That's as far as his recruitment got before Lee picked the Panthers.

Lee caught 46 passes for 792 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games in 2023, leading the Catamounts and one-upping his outstanding freshman campaign in 2022, during which he caught 36 passes for 634 yards and six touchdowns.

The 5'11 and 170-pound wideout earned 2022 All-Freshman Team honors from the Southern Conference and second-team All-SoCon distinction in 2023. The Catamounts ranked first in yards per game, eighth in offensive touchdowns and fourth in yards per play this past season.

He did all of that under the direction of Bell, who was his offensive coordinator for each of his two seasons at WCU and the duo will keep that relationship alive.
